6 Reasons Why Women Should Masturbate

For centuries, masturbation was considered a “guy thing”. Only during the last few years women started to openly admit to playing solo themselves from time to time.

However, sex therapists and doctors point out that indulging in a little self-pleasuring act can have real benefits both for a woman’s health and relationships. Sexual arousal and the orgasmic climax can have many benefits for the body as well as the mind. Here are six reasons why women should not feel ashamed or guilty for playing with themselves:

  • Reaching an orgasm can offer pain relief

During an orgasm, a surge of oxytocin is released in the body. Oxytocin is a natural pain reliever, which can alleviate the pains and aches normally associated with PMS (but not necessarily) – such as cramps, back aches and migraines. Who needs Advil anyway when the alternative is natural and so much more enticing?

  • Masturbation is a stress reliever and a cure for insomnia

Work, school, household chores, grocery shopping – a woman’s life is often too full for comfort. And when the night comes, you toss and turn in bed, unable to detach yourself from the day’s stress. Well – you might be pleased (pun intended) to know that by bringing yourself to a state of sexual arousal, you can put all that stress behind you and relax yourself. You might even fall asleep faster and rest better afterwards.

When you have sex or masturbate, the body releases a surge of endorphins. The endorphins are the chemicals that make us feel happy. The most commonly known ones are Serotonin  and Dopamine. Endorphins can also help relieve stress, anxiety and depression. Aside from sex and masturbation, serotonin and dopamine production in the body is also triggered by eating chocolate or drinking alcohol. But we do believe that indulging in a midnight 500 calories snack should make you feel more guilty than the alternative.

  • Get to know your body – hands-on

I guess this is self-explanatory, but we’ll give it a go. It’s simple: female sexuality was a taboo topic for centuries (if not millennia). Up until very recent times, the common belief was that women have no sex drive, that the female is just a vessel for male lust and that intercourse culminating in male ejaculation was enough to fulfill women's erotic needs. Now, thankfully, we know that is not true and we acknowledge female sexuality. But each an every one of us needs to learn hands-on (again, pun intended) what turns us on.

By masturbating, a woman can effectively discover her own body and learn about what turns her on. Masturbation is a great way to learn about your amazing body, discover which areas stimulate you and arouse you the most - be it the clitoris or the elusive G-spot. For the same reasons, sex therapists often recommend masturbation for women who have a difficult time reaching orgasm with their partner. It can help them learn about their body and feel less self-conscious.

  • Playing with yourself improves your sex life

If you are able to make yourself climax through masturbation, than most likely you know what works best for you in terms of sexual arousal. And that’s a good thing. Now you can teach that technique to your partner. As a result, sex will be more fulfilling for the both of you: he will relish on the fact that he brought you over the edge and you will be grateful to him for offering you an earth-shattering orgasm.

On the other hand, masturbating is a great way to get in tune to your deepest fantasies. By focusing on the scenarios and thoughts that turn you on during masturbation, you can figure out how to translate those thoughts into passionate sexual encounters. Win-win situation!

  • Knowing your body can improve your self-esteem and make you feel sexier

Let’s state the obvious: solo sex can offer pleasure, relaxation and it can alleviate stress. Just by that it can make you feel better about yourself. But that’s not all: by getting in touch with yourself, your body and your sexuality, you will learn to accept and love yourself more. And by feeling better about yourself and loving yourself more, you will feel more confident and act accordingly. And confidence is always sexy! Thus – a woman in touch with her sexuality is always sexy.

  • There is no safer sex!

Masturbation cannot lead to pregnancy and you cannot catch any STD’s while pleasuring yourself – hello, Captain Obvious! Masturbation has often been mislabeled as wrong or shameful. But we cannot fathom why that would be so – especially for a woman! Sex is great – who are we to deny it! But masturbation is a great way to indulge in pleasure and sexual arousal without the risk of pregnancy or sexually transmitted diseases
